Cathay Pacific Storing Images of Passengers “For as Long as Necessary”

Airline Cathay Pacific have revealed in its latest privacy policy that they routinely record passengers through CCTV whilst on-board and at the airport and retain the images and data for as long as necessary.

The very detailed, and honest privacy policy lists not only the standard data collected such as; API (Advanced Passenger Information) and in-airport purchases collected via third parties through Boarding Card data, but from “..your use of our inflight entertainment system and inflight connectivity, your images captured via CCTV in our airport lounges and aircraft..”

The same privacy policy also states, “We will retain your Personal Data for as long as is necessary.”

This policy is bound to cause concern to potential passengers following on from the data breach in 2018, when there was unauthorised access to some of its information system containing  passenger data of up to 9.4 million people.
