Amazon have made a worrying admission that they keep Echo devices and Alexa voice recordings indefinitely if the customer doesn’t delete them.
The admission came in a letter to Senator Christopher Coons from Amazon VP of public policy Brian Huseman, in which he said; “We retain customers’ voice recordings and transcripts until the customer chooses to delete them.”
The letter came as a response to the Senators questions regards questions about how long the company holds on to voice recordings and transcripts from interactions.
How this sits with European General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) laws is unclear as yet, but it is something that you may want to consider when installing these devices.
